WDW MOUSE TALES

Shutters Restaurant Review

This week WDW Mouse Tales visits Shutters Restaurant at the Royal Caribbean Resort Old Port Royale at Walt Disney World. This Caribbean themed restaurant definitely serves up delicious flavors in a relaxed atmosphere.

Appetizers

First I will start off with the hot bread that came with what my wife described as almost a Chimichurri Sauce flavored whipped butter. We both loved this and probably could have eaten another full basket.

We ordered the Lettuce Wrap Sampler Platter to share as an appetizer that the menu describes as Mojo Pork, Chayote Slaw, and Cilantro Sour Cream served with Plantains and Jerk Chips and priced at $11.99. The pork had a smoky flavor and when combined with the slaw and the flavorful Cilantro Sour Cream in one of the four lettuce wraps was extremely delicious.

Entrees

My wife decided on the Land and Sea that the menu describes as Grilled Skirt Steak with Chimichurri Sauce and Shrimp in Cilantro-Lime Butter and priced at $19.99. She enjoyed the shrimp, but for her the steak was what made this plate special. The Chimichurri Sauce was just right for her taste and she is picky about Spanish style food as this is her favorite. For the sides she chose the black beans and rice and the roasted sweet plantains. The plantains were cooked just right and very sweet and flavorful…just like a dessert unto themselves. Her only complaint and really mine as well was that there was a huge pile of white rice with very little black beans. But overall she loved this plate.

I went with the recommendation of my waitress and had the Char-crusted New York Strip Steak with Pico Sauce and priced at $27.99. This steak was one of the most highly flavorful steaks I have had in a long time. Covered in a awesome salsa it was marinated just right in a recipe I would like to have at home for steak nights. I had the sweet plantains and black beans and rice as well and I had the same complaint about the beans. This was OK though because I did not care for the taste of the beans. But overall the large delicious steak made up for the shortcomings of the beans and rice.

Dessert

At this point in the meal my wife and I were both thoroughly stuffed but I always have a little room for dessert. I was going to order the Key Lime Tart until I overheard the table next to me discussing the delicious Tres Leches and my wife heard the word Coconut and that was the end of that deliberation. This was a sponge cake covered in a delicious coconut milk and topped with whipped cream. This was the perfect ending to a delicious meal and I had to eat quickly or my wife would have left very little for me J.

Final Thoughts

Shutters Restaurant was a highly delicious meal with one of the best steaks I have had in quite a while. You can make a night of this and start your evening by paddling a canoe out on the lake right in front of the restaurant or even a little boat. Overall if you are a local or down for a few days why not take a little ride down to the Caribbean Beach Resort for a meal that hopefully you will love as much as I did.
